Well, here I am at the beginning of a new adventure. The world of blogging. I hope everyone will join me with great discussions on various topics of threat management, leadership skills and violence prevention. The world has changed as well as diversity post 911. People are more complicated which makes the workplace more complicated.
There are so many signs of troubled men and women in the workplace, but so often we look the other way because we think it’s none of our business. I just recently talked to a undisclosed client where one of their employees took her own life by jumping out of a building. Were their signs? Yes. Just a week before the tragic incident she came to work thinking that one of the managers was trying to kill her. She began talking to herself but everyone ignored the signs.
The truth is that this incident could have materailized into a homicide/suicide just as easily as it was a suicide. It is my opinion that it is pure “luck” that this young woman did not go back to the workplace to take innocent lives. She harbored ill feelings towards the workplace that were not reality based.
I ask you how could this have been prevented? My feedback is only as good as our conversation.
