LOS ANGELES, CA - Dr. Dana Picore wants you to be safe. In its ten years of operation, Picore Worldwide has earned the particular respect of those producing high-profile happenings, such as award ceremonies, VIP visits, and other A-list gatherings. Picore guards her client list as carefully as her clients themselves—but if there are paparazzi, a red carpet, and bright lights, there's a good chance that Dana Picore or one of her operatives is somewhere nearby, making sure the event makes the news for all the right reasons.

Dr. Picore, a licensed private investigator and psychotherapist in the State of California, is a veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, where she served as an officer, field instructor, and academy trainer. Security is her life, and although Picore remains tight-lipped about her clients, mention violence prevention, crisis intervention, or defusing hostile encounters and she becomes animated and passionate, weaving common sense with the finer points of strategy. "Confrontation should be a last resort," Picore explains. "If a situation demands Kevlar vests, fine. But if a simple background check can prevent an employee from coming to work with a gun, then why not stop the problem there?

Not surprisingly, Picore, educated on leadership strategies at Cornell University, is a sought-after media expert, appearing on networks such as CNN, MSNBC, Fox, and UPN to discuss topics ranging from assessing responses to 9/11 and the Virginia Tech Massacre to the challenges of guarding Madonna.

"Dana is an artist whose medium is threat assessment and management," says Gemma Beristain, Picore Worldwide's Chief Operating Officer. Beristain herself has over fifteen years experience in VIP and Corporate security including managing a cadre of protection agents for a Fortune 100 oil company, as well as serving as the Director of Facilities and Security for MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles). When the FBI and Secret Service needed assistance in directing logistics for executive visits to Los Angeles by President and Mrs. George Bush, former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, they utilized Beristain.

Together, Picore and Beristain make a formidable team, directing a staff of over 100 employees locally, and a network of alliance-partners across the country, with key team members based in Jerusalem and South Africa. Over the past two years, Picore Worldwide's revenues have grown nearly four-fold.

Both women downplay that they operate in a traditionally male-dominated field. However, neither denies the power of a woman's intuition. Beristain offers that since women are dialed into survival mode from the beginning, they learn to assess threats almost instinctively. "From when we are little girls walking home from school, we spend our lives aware of possible danger. A threatening situation is not an isolated event that happens and goes away. It's everyday life.

Picore created a deceptively simple Ten Point Threat Assessment Model to help businesses investigate, evaluate and avoid violence in the workplace. Other innovations are more subtle, but just as telling. A national staffing firm recently honored Picore Worldwide with the Vendor of Achievement Award in recognition of its outstanding service as well as developing the training program "The Intelligent Approach to Threat Assessment."
